HEIC plugin
Adds thumbnails, previews, photo details and Export As for HEIC and HEIF images, the format iPhones and many cameras save by default.
HEIC is the photo format iPhones and many newer cameras save by default. It's small and good quality, but plenty of tools still can't open it, so reference photos and texture sources end up as blank tiles. This plugin lets AssetHoard read them like any other image.
What it does
- Grid thumbnails and full-size previews, rotated and mirrored the way the camera recorded them.
- Photo details: dimensions, bit depth, transparency, and the camera make, model and date taken when the file has them.
- Export As, to turn a HEIC into a format other tools can open.
- Imports as a texture, so it sits alongside your other images.
- One package for Windows, macOS and Linux.
How to install
- Open Settings > Plugins > Browse, search for heic and click Install.
- Check what it reads and its permissions, then click Install.
- Select any HEIC files already in your library and right-click > Reimport.
Good to know
- Images over 16384 pixels on a side show as unsupported.
- HEIF image sequences (.heics) are not supported.
- AV1 images in a .heif file are not supported. AssetHoard reads .avif files itself.
- Very large photos, like 48 MP phone shots, can take several seconds to process.
